Paul's former wife Dolores reports that Paul has been living in a rest home in Missoula, MT since 1986. As a result of the sawmill accident that he reported in his 25th Reunion Letter, he lost much of his short term memory, and was no longer able to live an independent life. He still remembers things that happened before his 1976 accident and people he knew before that time.
When it became obvious that Paul was not going to be able to resume a normal life, and after much thought and reflection he and Dolores were divorced. She has since re-married.
