Professional
I migrated from the U of U Division of Artificial Organs to the U of U Electrical Engineering Department where I became a regular faculty member some time around 1978. My My specialties were semiconductor device physics and integrated circuits (computer chips to the non-specialists). Because I hated administration and always avoided it I never did attract much attention to myself so you probably never heard of me at the U. However I did really enjoy the teaching and the student contacts. By 1998 I'd had my fill of university politics and retired two years early. At that time I worked out a consulting contract with Sandia National Lab in Albuquerque for up to half time and have been commuting to Albuquerque about twice a month since then. There I'm mostly working with the new field of Micro Electro Mechanical Systems otherwise known as MEMS. I've cut my time there down to about one-third time and expect this will continue for the next several months to a year, when I might just really retire, unless of course my wife can't stand having me home all the time.
Personal
Virginia and I are still happily married after 45 years. We still live at the same address in Bountiful, Utah as we have for the last 34 years. Our three sons are scattered all over the country. The oldest is in San Antonio, Texas, the middle one lives in Gilbert, Arizona, and our youngest lives in the middle of Manhattan. Of course that gives us an excuse to go to New York a couple of times a year, which we greatly enjoy. In fact most of our travel of late is to see our children.
I'm looking forward to the 50th reunion and to compare notes with all of you.
I finally got around to getting a digital photo for the web site.
This was taken last Sunday, Dec 1, while we were in
San Antonio, TX visiting our son and his family.
It shows all of the effects of old age, but that is just reality!
